What Morpheous says about Jack & Rose (and the Bwiti)

Hey Caitlyn,

You know that scene in Titanic where Rose invites Jack to dinner with her fancy family and friends in first class?

How would you describe the feel and tone of that scene?

Are they enjoying themselves?
Is there connection?
Is there authenticity?
Is there love?
Does it feel alive?
Does it feel like it’s with or against nature?
Is there ease?
Are they in flow?

And do you remember that scene where Jack invites Rose to the party with his friends and comrades in third class?

How would you describe the feel and tone of that scene?

Are they enjoying themselves?
Is there connection?
Is there authenticity?
Is there love?
Does it feel alive?
Does it feel like it’s with or against nature?
Is there ease?
Are they in flow?

My mentor in the African tradition of the Bwiti Missoko, Apollon (who I affectionately refer to as Morpheous), said something interesting about these scenes.

He said,

“So, the Titanic. You know that dinner and party scene with Jack and Rose…

The West has become like the first class. Africa is like the third class.

The West has a lot of comfort, fancy things, sophisticated ideas. But there’s deadness. They’re not so alive. They’ve lost touch with their natural aliveness…

People in the West suffer with this.

Africa doesn’t have so much comfort, but we know how to be alive. We know how to be in rhythm with nature. With our nature.”

And this is what the African Bwiti tradition is birthed inside of.

Nature. Your nature. The nature of the universe.

And the Bwiti Initiation (one-week ritual) with iboga helps you to be in rhythm with that.

And because initiation is in touch with what’s natural, the whole thing is FUN — like in the Titanic’s third class dance party.

Yes, it’s spiritual work, shadow work, HARD work, but there’s so much joy in the ritual.

It involves singing, dancing, laughing, joking, sexy swinging of hips, sweating, napping, shaking, and being a full, authentic YOU.

This ritual reflects life — and life includes ALL of it: the up, the down; the tears, the laughter; the serious, the hilarious.

It’s all in there.
